The Matilda is a 9mm handgun that appears in the Resident Evil 2 remake. It is Leon's personal sidearm that he carries throughout the game.
Location
The Matilda will be in Leon's inventory from the start of the main game.
Gameplay
By default it has a maximum magazine size of 12 Handgun Bullets, but it can be upgraded by combining it with its High-Capacity Mag. which increases the magazine size to a total of 24 bullets and shortens its reload time. Its muzzle can also be upgraded by combining it with its Muzzle Brake, which reduces its recoil and increases its overall accuracy. Finally, A Gun Stock upgrade can be acquired to allow for a 3-shot burst fire function.
Damage-wise, Matilda acts as the baseline weapon which other weapons in the game can be compared to. On adaptive difficulty level of 1-3, corresponding to Assisted Difficulty, Matilda deals 120 damage per shot. On level 5 or Normal Difficulty, Matilda deals 100 damage per shot. And on the highest level at 8-9, the Hardcore Difficulty, Matilda deals only 70 damage per shot. Attaching a Gun Stock to Matilda increases its damage roughly by 10%.
While a relatively weak weapon, ammunition for it is plentiful and the three-round burst upgrade makes it a useful tool for quickly staggering zombies or breaking off limbs, especially from a distance, where the shotgun would fall out of range. While not something to be relied on when raw damage is needed above all, its among the most versatile weapon in the game.
